Sailing Dreams

SOLD
February is wrapping up here in Maine, and it's usually about this time that I become less appreciative of winter's beauty. My mind is roaming to warmer times, and wandering through the island trails. Last night I actually dreamed of being on my favorite windjammer, Summertime . Yesterday I did this dreamy little island painting, in response, I guess.

Framing options

Since I haven't been posting new paintings here lately (my time has been driven by graphic design and illustration deadlines over these last few weeks...read about it on my Living Color blog) so I decided to post the two frame options that I currently stock. These are floater frames...the painting just floats within instead of the edges being tucked up under the molding edge. I  like the contemporary look, and that the whole painting is exposed. Since the paintings are so small it's especially nice to have that extra.  My buyers seem to like the style very much. A more traditional plein air frame may be a good idea to stock as well, and I've been looking at several different styles, trying to choose one to stock. Always open to suggestions.

Thinking spring

SOLD
I've done a few snowy paintings to get in the spirit of this unbelievably white Maine winter, but now I'm ready for spring....kayaking, gardening, and painting outdoors. So here's a little painting that reminds me of some of my paddling haunts.

Painting during the blizzard

I love the cozy feeling of being snowed in. During the last blizzard I celebrated the beautiful white landscape with a little snowy painting, anticipating what things would look like the day after when the sun appeared.

This is done alla prima...my workshop on this process, Feb 12, still has a few openings. Info on my website:  http://www.lindapackard.com/workshops

Rocks. Maine.

SOLD
Maine shores are colorful regardless of the time of year. The range of greys alone is fabulous and when contrasting with the grasses, seaweeds, and deep rich pines, it's....well, it's why we are here.

Causeway Colors

Causeway Colors   SOLD
I am drawn to the colors of low tide waters, the ochres and browns and grays against the greens and blues. This one reminds me of areas along the Causeway, between Maine's Little Deer Isle and Deer Isle. The painting just happened as I was pushing paint around one morning last week. Then I took a drive past the Causeway yesterday and realized that must have been where my senses were that morning in the studio. I like the smell there too.
