Looking at Manana

This piece actually sold before I got it posted, but I want to include it anyway as it is part of my Monhegan Cottage series. This tidy little cottage spends the day gazing out at the island of Manana, just off Monhegan shore. When standing on shore, Manana looks very close...a quick paddle...but alas, it is a good distance, and with the whether and winds ever changing it has happened that a peaceful row out turns into a scary row back.

Neighbors

My city is very hilly and there are so many of these little vignettes around town. Clusters of housetops surrounded by beautiful treetops. I'm looking forward to doing more of these, close to home.

Waiting for Guests - Monhegan

From this low perspective, the cottage seems to go on and on, and the chairs glow in the morning sun waiting for guests to come, sit, and enjoy the fabulous view.

Bagaduce River Island

SOLD
Last summer I stopped at the fabulous Bagaduce Lunch take-out in Brooksville, Maine. It was my final stop of a lovely weekend on the Maine coast. They have picnic tables along the rocky shore looking out onto the river. It was early in the evening still very light out, but the sky was already turning pink, backlighting the little island and putting it mostly in silhouette.

Islands

I love the islands of Maine...and whenever I am at a loss for an idea for one of my daily oils, I return to the island image. Some come from my imagination or a memory, others from sketches or photos I've collected. I never tire of painting them especially those embraced by fog.
