Patterns in the Rain

Patterns in the Rain   6 x 6"  oil on panel   SOLD
I came across this stand of trees during the recent weeks of nearly constant rain and drizzle. I loved the blue green muted foliage and the way the tree branches stood out against it, creating a beautiful organic pattern. This painting is the result of my memory of that image. I like the abstract quality grounded in representation.

  1. Beautiful. I just sent a paraphrased quote to a friend - Robert Henri said that even when we are painting what's right in front of us we are painting from memory. That's an interesting thing to think about.

  2. Thanks you, Dixie. I was thinking I might be the only one to like this one. It's very different for these little paintings...more like my larger works.

Very interesting quote indeed! I think there is a lot of truth to that ...if you think about how difficult it is sometimes to paint a subject that is familiar...we subconsciously draw from our experience and tend to paint what we think we should be seeing.

  3. Hi Linda...I found your site via Dixie and just wanted to say that I like your paintings very much. They are so atmospheric and right away evoked feelings inside me (been there, felt that way while there). Wonderful.
