Another perspective, looking down to the water from one of the rock-edged paths. This was late in the afternoon when the sun was low. The birches had a glow to them.
Even on those kind of hazy days, especially in the mornings, the Monhegan light is special. I loved the way this cottage was barely visible as we walked along the rocky edged path. One can only imagine the view from the place.
A day of sketching at Sandy Point, Maine, resulted in this little gem which captured the hazy summer day and the last of the beloved lupine which grace the fields along the coast. I experimented a bit here with my medium, letting the colors drip into one another for a very different look.

The rocky paths leading to weathered cottages nestled in lush greens are part of the romantic ambiance of Monhegan Island. I have been working on a series of these small paintings...more to come!

My friend has a wonderful garden graced by these dancing sunflowers all along the fence.
