Patterns in the Rain

Patterns in the Rain   6 x 6"  oil on panel   SOLD
I came across this stand of trees during the recent weeks of nearly constant rain and drizzle. I loved the blue green muted foliage and the way the tree branches stood out against it, creating a beautiful organic pattern. This painting is the result of my memory of that image. I like the abstract quality grounded in representation.

Golden Path

Golden Path,  6 x 6" oil on canvas  SOLD
Paths have long been a favorite theme of mine. Where the path might lead provides a little mystery, and an arch of lush foliage always adds to it.  I am always drawn to an opportunity to back-light trees, too.

This one is done on canvas...a little different feel and texture than my usual paintings on panel. It feels a lot different doing the painting too.

A Separate Peace Along the Benjamin River

A Separate Peace    6 x 6"  Oil on panel   SOLD
I frequently visit the Sedgwick/Brooklin area where I lived for 13 years. It brings back such lovely memories of raising my son in this rural coastal town on the Blue Hill peninsula.  On a visit this fall on an was overcast day, I was drawn to the peaceful stillness of these trees standing so near the edge of the Benjamin River, separate but together.

Thinking spring

SOLD
I've done a few snowy paintings to get in the spirit of this unbelievably white Maine winter, but now I'm ready for spring....kayaking, gardening, and painting outdoors. So here's a little painting that reminds me of some of my paddling haunts.
